About Google Apps

Elmhurst College partnered with Google™ and all students and adjunct faculty members are assigned a Google Apps Account. Google Apps is an Education Suite, powered by Google, which provides web-based applications that include Google Email, Google Docs, Google Calendar and other applications. All services are hosted by Google and are available to users via any internet-connected computer and many mobile devices.


Activating accounts

Before accessing your Elmhurst College email for the first time, you will have to "activate" your Google Apps account:

1)  Login to My Elmhurst Campus Portal (http://my.elmhurst.edu/).
2)  Click the "Google Apps email" link.
3)  Enter your full email address and temporary password.
  • Full email address: first name (dot) last name @net.elmhurst.edu
  • Temporary password: your birthdate in the format mmddyyyy
4)  Agree to Google’s policies and create a password.
  • Password must be at least eight (8) characters.
  • It must be a combination of letters and numbers.
  • It must contain one capital letter.

Accessing email
  • Your email address will be in this form: username@net.elmhurst.edu.
  • To access your Google email account, use the link "Google Apps Email" located within the My Elmhurst Campus Portal, or visit http://mail.net.elmhurst.edu/. Here, enter your full email address.

Accessing Google Apps

To access your Google Apps (like Google Docs, Google Calendar, etc.), refer to the apps icon at the top-right of your Google Email window which lists common apps like Mail, Calendar, Documents, Sites, etc. and for even more Apps, click on "More." You may also use the links provided under the "Resources" section on the right side of this page.


Change existing password

To change your current Google Apps email password, please follow the instructions here: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6567?hl=en. Note: This will not change your password to the My Elmhurst Campus Portal.


Forgotten password

To retrieve your Google Apps email password, call the Academic Technology Services at 630-617–3543. The staff will ask security questions to verify your identity before releasing any information to you.


Syncing email to mobile devices

Before adding a Google Apps email account to any mobile device, ensure that IMAP is enabled in your Google Apps email settings.

For Android users:

  • On your phone, press "Settings" from the apps menu, then press "Accounts and Sync" from the options list.
  • Press "Add account" and select "Gmail" or "Google" from the accounts menu.
  • Follow through the steps to setup the account. For username, enter the full Google Apps email address: username@net.elmhurst.edu and the password.
  • If successful, choose from the options to sync your email, calendar items, contacts, and/or tasks.
  • Press "Finish" for the phone to synchronize your data (could take up to two minutes, depending on connection type).

For Apple users:

  • On your phone, press "Settings" from the apps menu, then press "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" from the options list.
  • Press "Add Account" and select "Gmail" from the accounts menu.
  • Follow through the steps to setup the account. For username, enter the full Google Apps email address: username@net.elmhurst.edu and the password. For the description, you may enter "EC Email."
  • If successful, choose from the options to sync your email, calendar items, contacts, and/or tasks.
  • Press "Done" for the phone to synchronize your data (could take up to two minutes, depending on connection type).

For Windows Mobile users:

  • On your phone, press "Settings" from the apps menu, then press "Email and Accounts" from the options list.
  • Press "Add an account" and select "Google" from the accounts menu.
  • Follow through the steps to setup the account. For username, enter the full Google Apps email address: username@net.elmhurst.edu and the password.
  • If successful, choose from the options to sync your email, calendar items, contacts, and/or tasks.
  • Press "Sign in" for the phone to synchronize your data (could take up to two minutes, depending on connection type).

For BlackBerry users:

  • Coming soon.
